As soon as the music starts and she starts to move, Eunice shows Barber a huge smile that doesn’t seem to want to leave her. The former athletics champion enjoys sport and conveys this healthy passion. At the invitation of the Par simple gourmandise restaurant in Champigny, she now leads fitness sessions every Tuesday evening.
After simple registration and for only 17.90 euros, men and women are invited to enjoy an hour of sport with music and in a friendly atmosphere, before sharing a balanced dinner, on the terrace when the weather is nice. The “fit’dinner” formula has just been launched, but a dozen people have already tested and approved it. The most loyal can even opt for the formula four sessions and four menus for only 65 euros.
“No need to eat on the way home”
“It allowed me to get back into sport and with the formula I don’t have to make dinner on the way home, it’s perfect,” says Mélanie, who took part in four of the first five sessions and says she “seduced is swept by the tantalizing smells of the kitchen” as soon as she arrives.
The restaurant in rue de Verdun wanted to brighten up its dining room. And it’s a customer, who runs a shop in Champigny that Eunice Barber likes to visit, who suggested the two women work together. “The concept of teaching here and then having dinner together immediately appealed to me, and since I started my coaching business in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) it has been completely consistent,” says Eunice Barber, who lives in Chennevières.
The former world champion heptathlon and long jump, disciplines in which she set French records, ended her career twelve years ago. Since then she has been trained as a coach.
She who has always loved group classes is served with this restaurant atmosphere rather than a gym. The amateurs arrive from 7 pm. They can be up to six or seven. A pair of leggings, a T-shirt and a pair of sneakers will suffice. Eunice tucks her long hair into a bandana, picks up the stopwatch and kicks off the playlist. “Afrobeat, reggae or funk,” specifies the champion.
The very varied exercises follow each other every thirty seconds for an hour. The duo plans to buy some gym mats, medicine balls, steps or even ropes soon, always to make the session as fun as possible. Outdoor sessions are also planned, as well as a special beginners course on Fridays when demand is higher.

And after the effort comes the time for comfort. Janice Moreira-Fernandes, who launched Par Simple Gourmandise just before giving birth, plans simple, fresh and healthy menus. “At the moment salads are of course welcome, with shrimps or avocados for example, says the cook. Tonight it’s grilled chicken, raw vegetables and as always a seasonal fruit, this time melon! †
Returning somewhat tired but satisfied after what the two initiators describe as “a real evening for yourself, in which you forget about everyday problems”. The only thing left for the participants to do is take a shower.
Jessica has tested and enjoyed the Tuesday evenings so much that she comes from Val-d’Oise for her exercise session and her balanced meal. “I used to have a digestive problem because I stopped exercising, says the young woman. Since I started working out again and with the Fit’dinner I’m in great shape. I strongly recommend people to take a ride, we have a coach who advise us well! †
