Exercise, eat, find love or even relax: eDreams reveals the most important motivations of travelers

A few months before the well-deserved summer vacation, eDreams – with One Poll – asked travelers about the main reasons they travel or about their changes in habits or behavior since the pandemic. Do they go on vacation to relax or to find love? ?Do they plan to share their holiday memories even more on social networks?

Relax with family or friends

When French travelers are asked about the main reasons why they travel, 75% answered to relax, to take care of themselves – in September 2020 well-being was not necessarily the priority of travelers, only 13 [1] of French respondents mentioned it as a choice criterion for their future vacation.

they are 48 % to travel to socialize. When asked to specify, only 8% cited finding love as the reason. French travelers seem more likely to socialize with family (61%) and friends (64%).

Adventure yes, sport no

Almost half of French travelers like culture (42%) and adventure (41%).

sports during the holidays † It seems travelers are more into sun loungers than sports † Only 14% cite it as travel motivation. But bon vivants, it seems that the French are not looking for culinary discoveries, as barely ⅓ (29%) of them choose food as a reason to travel. This is less than the 39% of Swedes (39%) or Italians (37%) who cite food as the main reason for travelling.

It seems that the majority of French travelers (45%) have not changed their eating habits while on holiday since the pandemic. 19% still prefer accommodation with a kitchen and 17% go to the restaurant more during their holidays than before the pandemic.

Men Women on the road, user manual

What further differentiates the desires of French women and men in the field of travel is sports and finding love.

French female travelers unanimously agree, citing 80% relaxation, self-care and 65% men as the main reason for travelling. While 9% cite sport as a reason to travel, men seem slightly more likely to engage in physical activity, as 24% cite sport as one of the main reasons for travelling… a matter of mental load imbalance throughout the year † There is sometimes a difference between intention and reality † The interpretation of this difference is free.

In terms of dating, men seem to be more likely to find love on vacation (13%) than women (6%).

Has the pandemic changed the relationship with travel and social networks?

Not really if we are to believe the intentions of French travelers: 55% of them say they will not share their trip more or less on social networks – however they declare more that they will share more (21%) than less (10%). . It is young travelers aged 18 to 34 who say they will share more (30%). It is Americans (40%) who say they will share their trip on social media even more than before the pandemic, followed by Italians (33%) – and it is Germans who think they are less content related to their vacation on social media. networks will share than before the pandemic.
