On the territory of Deauville, for three years, Delaveau Academy welcomes young riders with “the idea of offering training in sporting excellence to all those young people who want to become professional riders while achieving their academic goals,” said Sabrine Delaveau, founder of the academy. We managed to achieve this goal, for example we have an Amazon who was French Junior Champion and who obtained her baccalaureate”.
Based on this pioneering work that has already begun, this momentum will soon take another step with the arrival in Deauville ofIkigai Education† This group has been the leader of private sports studies in France since 1995, opening a new sports study campus and a school with hours organized around Deauville (Calvados). The target? Housing approximately 100 board and day students on this campus over the next three years.
Between academic success and sports practice
“Our job is to tailor schools that make unique projects a success, begins Fabien Grobon, Chairman and CEO of the group. Once a young person has a passion or need for time or geographical availability to play music, dance or sports, we create the school that allows them to condense their schedules and teach remotely”. Fabien Grobon is proud of more than 20 years of experience in the sport, including Roland Garros, the World Equestrian Games in Caen or as general manager of the Stade Français, Fabien Grobon brings a new educational offer to Deauville.
Specific, Ikigai Education will open a boarding school in Deauville “a combination of academic success and intensive sports practice”. Three sports are offered here “Sports Study Academy”in collaboration with local structures: the horse riding at the Pôle international du cheval, in collaboration with the Académie Delaveau, golf with Golf Barrière de Deauville, and the sailing with the Trouville club. In order to accommodate the lessons of these future students, about forty, the group will have access to the buildings of the former Gustave Flaubert school group, in Coteau. The group began recruiting professors to work within the campus.
As for housing, these young people sleep in a residence Pierre and holidays from the center of Deauville, awaiting work within the school group to furnish rooms with about sixty beds. A shuttle system allows them to be transported between their home, their school and the various sports venues.
Today it is probably in sport that there is the strongest transmission of values: effort, discipline, the management of victory and defeat, the collective, respect for others … Everything that allows you to be in a very positive way in a community to live.
“Have a complete offer”
next door “Sports Study Academy”, the Ikigai Education group also offers a “School”, “for all outsiders in the Pays d’Auge”. Specifically, it will allow young people to organize their days by adapting them to extracurricular activities, including artistic activities and sports that do not fall under sports studies. And this time the housing is at home and the extracurricular activities in the respective clubs. “Every afternoon we offer three hours of English on public speaking, conversation, vocabulary, English exam preparation,” adds Fabien Grobon. A point the mayor of Deauville had insisted on during his discussions with the group. “The first question from young parents who come to settle is what is the education like and is there bilingualism”, says the alderman, completely fascinated by this sports study campus:
We are fully expanding our school offer, which is important at a time when the sociology of our country is organizing itself differently in a territorial way: people are leaving the big cities and settling in medium-sized cities. And to guarantee the attractiveness of the area, you need a complete offer.
Sports Studies with Ikigai Education
The Ikigai Education group (formerly Sports Studies Academy) has been a leader in private sports studies in France since 1995 and has seen about 20,000 young people pass, including “1500 top athletes,” emphasizes Fabien Grobon. They provided training for Pierre Gasly, Richard Gasquet or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
The group develops two types of activities. First from B to B, where he “makes white label schools for major professional clubs, federations, academies. For example, we manage the girls academy of PSG, the young footballers of OL, OM, Paris FC or Toulouse FC”. Other disciplines are affected, such as the car, dance, basketball or even, more recently, horseback riding.
Another important activity of the group, B to C, with the development of different types of schools: five “Sports Etudes Academy” (boarding school campuses), “Schoolency” (a school with flexible hours in the day school) and “Studence” (post- Baccalaureate in Apprenticeship).
