Ultimate Team, licensing, cross-play… the news point and the big rumours

Expected before the end of September, FIFA 23 will be the last it will be called before the transition to EA Sports FC. While very little information has been released at this point, several sources agree on the new content and new features coming.

It’s been confirmed for a while: FIFA 23 will be the last FIFA. After this you will have to get used to talking about EA Sports FC, the new name that Electronic Arts has chosen after the decision not to renew its license with FIFA.

Like every year, the football video game flagship, which continues to dominate sales in the industry, should be available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC by the last week of September. Early access should also be granted to owners of the most expensive version of the game and subscribers to the EA Play Service. Meanwhile, a lot of rumors and some proven information are circulating here and there on the web. Just over three months before release, RMC Sport is taking stock of the latest echoes.

Great work on Ultimate Team

Two major upheavals are expected for EA’s goose, namely the Ultimate Team mode. On the one hand, it should no longer be possible to change the positions of players with dedicated cards. Each player would now have a main position and another secondary, in an immutable manner. History of no longer seeing N’Golo Kanté on the attack.

On the other hand, the system of “chemistry”, which is required to align players with common points (championship, nationality, club), needs to be completely overhauled. There should be no more green or red links between players. The new device would operate with a limit of stars (three) that should not be exceeded. This would open up the possibilities of making up an elf.

New Icon cards, in tribute to the “greatest of all time”, are mentioned. Recently I heard that we have to count on: Harry Kewell, Zico, Gabriel Batistuta, Yaya Touré, Rafael Marquez, Claudio Marchisio, Diego Forlan, Diego Simeone, Dirk Kuyt, Joan Capdevilla, John Arne Riise, Lucio, Park Ji-Sung and Peter squat.

Little information about career mode

For now, the main rumor for other game modes is Solo Career, with new customization options and a stadium editor with advanced features (to change the appearance of the case, leaderboards and capacity).

Towards a return of Juve and the addition of women’s championships

Renamed Piemonte Calcio for a rights issue, Juventus will apparently be making a comeback with its real name, its real logo, its real shirts. On the other hand, it is over for the J-League (Japan) and Liga MX (Mexico) clubs. Both championships are now exclusive to the competitor eFootball from Konami. Some players such as Florian Thauvin or André-Pierre Gignac could still be present, if EA Sports decides to create fictional teams.

Women’s championships could be added, according to several sources: the FA Women’s Super League (England), the Frauen-Bundesliga (Germany), the National Women’s Soccer League (United States), D1 Arkema (France). Since 2015, FIFA has contented itself with adding several female rosters and introducing the ability to play as a footballer in Club Pro mode.

The 2022 Men’s World Cup will be here, as confirmed by Electronic Arts. So all qualified countries will be playable.

The arrival of cross-play seems to have been achieved

This potential novelty is undoubtedly the most important. FIFA 23, in part or in whole, may be “cross-play”. That is, a PlayStation 5 player can play an online match against an Xbox Series player (or even an Xbox One player against an Xbox Series player, which isn’t even possible today).

Tests have already been performed on FIFA 22† If confirmed for FIFA 23well-informed sources confirm), no longer necessary to, for example, consult with friends to buy the same console. In these times of tensions on the stocks of the new generation of consoles, it is a godsend.

It remains to be seen whether the EA Sports project will only involve classic matches, between friends or strangers, or whether cross-play will also be foreseen for Ultimate Team and Club Pro. This would make the lucrative card market unique for Ultimate Team. This will further stimulate transactions.
